Yes, Susanne Cook-Greuter has investigated this to a limited degree.  Her 1999 book is entitled 'Postautonomous ego development: A study of its nature and measurement' from Integral Publishers.

Have you looked at the research by Shalom Schwartz? He has done extensive research on cross-cultural values, and self-transcendence is one of the dimensions he uses. You can look at my dissertation for an introduction to his work, but I am sure you will find some of his papers (or references to them) here on ResearchGate.
