For some months I have been looking for a good textbook on how we can use the PHP language for scientific and engineering applications, but so far I have not found any. For example, I'd like to know how to solve differential equations using PHP code. So if somebody knows any good PHP textbooks on this topic (downloadable ebook is preferable), please kindly let me know.

I would like to say simply to follow PHP Manual. There is no alternative of it. However, if you want to know more systematic programming in PHP, I prefer you to learn Object Oriented PHP and one of the great book ever I seen is Professional PHP 6.
Although, for systematic programming, you can take a look into PHP the Right Way.
Actually scientific application is depends on your logic rather than programming language. Your application will be reached based on your logic... :)
