Resting potentials in nerve and muscle are different, but some sources vary in terms of the cited K equilibrium potential. The nature of this equilibrium is different from a chemical equilibrium which is entirely dependent on the reaction in question and not its circumstance. Is there a difference in K equilibrium potentials in different cells or is the Kandel reference simply an error?
All the potentials are variable even in the same person, so I guess differences occur naturally and the absence of a difference would be unusual.
No doubt there is some variation in potentials, but resting potentials are surely more polarized in muscle than nerve, and despite variation this should be reflected in most people, and even mammals. I was wondering why equilibrium potentials were suggested to vary.
