Plant extracts used to control fungi have fungicidal properties while those used on bacterial are targeted at bacteria. Some plant extracts are broad spectrum in action thereby acting on a wide variety of microorganisms.

I want to add with Dr. Ekhuemelo that a plant definitely contain some special phytochemicals/s to show some special effects. The plants used and for efficacy as antifungal in it's reported usable form contain such phytochemicals, though our present analytical systems may be unable to detect them.
