13 November 2014 5 9K Report

Hi all. I want to set up an experiment where I add LPS to my cells and measure the cellular response to this bacterial endotoxin.

I was wondering what the correlation was between LPS amounts (ug/ml) and actual bacterial cell numbers (i.e. 10ug/ml LPS = 10^8 bacterial cells/ml)?

I realise the amount of bacterial cell wall endotoxin may vary between bacterial species but an "average" amount would be fine. I have found some data in Google books but any references etc. would be most appreciated.

I also have a second question - what amounts of LPS (ug/ml) would be considered to represent Low, Medium and High bacterial contamination?

Thanks in advance,

Gary
