I'm starting a research project that will make use of multiple coders to look at how journalists talk about their own ethical practices. I'm background reading on this topic now, but really looking for extant codebooks that have done something like this in journalism studies. The content in question is journalists' news stories produced about an ethical controversy. Is there any quantitative content analysis you would recommend looking at?
If I understand you correctly, you will be looking at how journalists report the ethical considerations for insight into how they handle their own ethical challenges. I am not sure whether that will give you the information you are seeking about journalistic ethical frames of reference.
But I think that your best starting point is the Society for Professional Journalists (SPJ) code of ethics. It is a widely used framework for journalistic ethics:
