I have isolated bacillus subtilis from different sources of soil, is there any biochemical method for identification of bacillus subtilis species? Please inform me how to confirm the bacteria biochemically.
A very simple and quick method is the use of chromogenic agars (see www.sigmaaldrich.com/content/dam/sigma-aldrich/docs/Fluka/Datasheet/92325dat.pdf). Bacillus subtilis should yield green colonies and can be differentiated from other bacilli. However, this is probably only a quick “pre-test” and should be confirmed by other tests. If you are looking for biochemical identification you might use e.g., API or BIOLOG.
