Sir, I think not only solar energy other renewable and non-renewable energy i.e. biomass, wind, tide are the source of energy for life. I personally feel as a researcher and a human being that all the energies are interconnected without those life is impossible though it is not scientifically proved. May be it is my assumption.
"Life" is whatever living organism, not obligatory able to use sunlight for photosynthesis. Almost all renewable energy (biomass, wind, but not tide) are the solar energy converted to chemical energy, temperature gradient, etc.
Geothermal energy provides compounds which are metabolized by living organisms in mineral springs and hydrothermal vents at the bottom of the ocean. Significant amounts of the heat are from the decay of radioisotopes, but I believe the majority of this is residual heat from the gravitational "condensation" and phase separation of the Earth.
I think you can make a case that most types of energy are related to solar energy, but what we see from dark matter suggests that there are types of energy that we do not yet understand.
Taking into consideration the energy mass equation we can say a major source not single source, even waste can turn out to be a source of energy in future.
