The majority of answers are in favor of using such software. Such software detects only the direct plagiarism (copying another’s work). The use of such software suggests that you plagiarized in your paper and want to avoid its detection by a publisher. From my point of view the direct plagiarism is not the main problem. To plagiarize means:

  • to steal and pass off (the ideas or words of another) as one's own
  • to use (another's production) without crediting the source
  • to commit literary theft
  • to present as new and original an idea or product derived from an existing source

(from https://www.plagiarism.org/article/what-is-plagiarism).

I saw many publications in which authors used already published ideas, concepts, methodology, etc but do not give a credit to previous works in the references. The editors and reviewers are often unable to detect such plagiarism. My question is how we can minimize such plagiarism? Please, do not post one word answers such as following, interesting, agree, etc.
