It seems clear, and mostly limited to Theoretical Physics, that the RG Discussion and ‘Technical Question' boards have become platforms wherein the individual asking the “question” goes off pontificating on their Big Theory.
Other ‘scientists' chime in and begin pontificating their Big Theory, like a sales pitch. In cases where the author can actually read math, they express junior level equations cut and pasted from elsewhere on the web, usually Wikipedia, in Hex Latex, which no one is going to read.
There are multiple things going on here. 1) Theoretical Physics, in the wake of a century of Ontology that resulted from misconceptions of the 2-slit, has become a Circus of absurd gibberish and related mathematical rubbish.
2) The human penchant to force feed one’s Personal Voodoo down Your throat.
NOTE: ALL of those who respond to this are the worst violators, others won’t bother. It will be puerile and bitter.

Don't you think theoretical physics, in general, serves as a platform for pontificating on grand theories?
- How many origin-of-the-universe stories have you heard of? Were they all developed on ResearchGate (RG)?
- How many versions of inflationary cosmology exist?
- How many interpretations of quantum mechanics are there? Can you name a single one that originated on RG?
- Has a new version of the "turtles all the way down" cosmology1 emerged from RG?
- ...
At worst, RG is merely a microcosm of a much larger picture.

RG is fine, its great, wouldnt change it for the world. Its the forums that trouble me. Instead of writing papers, people are pontificating Big Theories that no one is going to read as a paper, for infinite reasons. So they write oage after pafe of ludicrous math in a forum, thinking someone will read it.
The problem is everyone wants everyone else to belive their personal Vudu, be it religion, politics, or science.
Physics has become a circus because of the past century of the 2-slit, of all things, conjuring unobservable realms of the gods in an attemp to explain what is obviously observable.
And no, no Popular Big Theory originated on RG. What is becomming popular are hypotheses that are science fiction oriented, unobservable realms, and if there is math, cannot even function without violating Fundamental Theorems and basic Axioms.
This is all the result of grad cadets not kept on a short leash and laymen who are too lazy to learn the math and the subject.

Unfortunately, this reflects the reality of theoretical physics in general. With that said, I must disagree with your last paragraph.
Let me provide one more example of what talented physicists are up to, as revealed in a RI talk. I doubt that many people have read any of the 554 papers published within such a short period.
There are over two million papers published each year in physics. each gets an average of less than ten reads. The average auther gets about a hundred reads in a lifetime.
Meaning, people dont read, but they are still compelled to write. A lot of nothingness.
There is no widget in hand demonstrating success in any of it, not in a century. its still fire and electricity.
