Now a days, there is tremendous increase in the number of journals which is of poor quality (with some exceptions), which ultimately reflects the quality of research and its application in industry.
Yes Dr. Chavan it is affecting. Particularly journals like PloS, BMC are just beyond our reach. In any Scientist interview day by day Impact Factor is becoming an important deciding factor and in that slowly researchers like us are loosing the race although we have the ability to publish but simply as we dont have the money in pocket we are unable to publish. In any journal which is having impact is becoming increasingly difficult to publish as the pressure is huge, Adding to it is there are very few Indian journals which are at par with international standards. The situation is very grim and more specifically its a business. I have seen many articles which are getting published by these journals are quite substandard but still as they are paying money its getting through. Altogether situation is quite discouraging. Thus we may say "no research will go on " etc but if the platforms gets choked in this fashion it will become difficult to publish. I feel rules of UGC in India is the main contributing factor. People are going behind easy publications without proper quality.
Not completely, but yes paid journals are for financially rich scientists (Specially in India). Though, all articles contribute something towards the growth of science. But nowadays there are so many journals do not care about the quality of information in the manuscripts. These articles are easily become publishable after paying a good amount of money. So, sometimes quantity dominates over quality from the point of novel scientific work.
