In recent years, we are witnessing an influx of a large number of open access journals and journals from many publishers. Many journals have specialized titles. Some of them also acquired a decent impact factor in few years after the launch. There are reports on inflated impact factor too. Is it an opportunity for researchers? Or does it add an ocean of literature?
A great question indeed.Obviously a large no. of new journals may help us to publish more papers. Spinger open ,JON,Bentham,Hindawi journals are open access and have decent impact factor, (you know very well).These journals are very good for publications.But sir, the no of good journal is very less.On the other hand in recent years huge no of fake journals has been publishes who shows fake impact factor about them.Additionally, it is a matter of disgrace that most of them are from India!.These fake journals most of the times published papers which are just the copy paste works from the original(I have some evidence also).This is a serious crime.Although I have very less experience in paper publication as I am a very young researcher.But ,I feel that these fake journals should be banned. and some very good publishers should be encouraged to start valid journal publications also Sir, as a student I personally feels that the open access journals demand a huge amount of money for publication.So for students who has less money ,the publication charge should be very less or may be there should be some rebate.
Basically, the publication fee for the author is moderately high in certain journals. Is it like the publishers who publish our work for free are rated less?!
More the merrier, but these newbie journals can't replace existing well-established journals... Having said that, it takes time for new journals to gain reputation...
Before submitting manuscript to a new journal, take a look at the editorial board, the credibility of editors and the publishing company/society. If a new journals is from established societies like ACS or RSC or publishers like Wiley or Elsevier, its pretty safe to submit our manuscript.
It takes time for them to establish. Then a natural skimming progress will take place.
