One of the interesting features in Google scholar citation tool is the automatic updating of citations. It also covers more journals than Scopus . However, google cite does not have many features of web of knowledge and Scopus. Of course, we can’t expect everything free from Google! I notice that Scopus does not cover many important journals in their citation analysis. Is there any other better citation analysis tool?
ResearcherID is useful - it is based on Web of Knowledge but can be freely viewed by people who don't have access to WoK. It updates citations automatically, but it doesn't discover papers automatically like Google Scholar does. Actually, Google Scholar requires a bit of attention since it may aggregate papers by individuals with the same surname. The Google citation numbers are also higher because, for example, a work can be cited in a preprint on arxiv.org and later in the final journal publication.
For example, I just cleaned up my Google Scholar record and it reduced my score by about 20, due to Google's aggregation of authors with (my rather common) family name. I encourage all my colleagues to establish ownership of their Google Scholat record. It is a one-step process that is relatively easy, afterwards needs light maintenance work. if your score jumps by 100 in a day - as mine has - it is
probably due to Google aggregating another author. I'm not criticizing Google here - overall they do a remarkable job.
I fully agree. Google is doing a wonderful job. We can see a lots of researchers on Google. I hope, they would introduce more features in the coming days, probably with a fee!
