In my opinion is think we execute the two simultaneously depending on our current conditions and mood. Men are logical and women are very emotional. Some love to work on their free will; some too work hard just to lead; and some too their actions and behaviour are weird.

The most important gift from Allah is our mind. However; Allah gave us the freedom of choices for our actions. My understanding is that human beings are born to do good deeds and therefore be happy in this life. This is why we call Islam; religion of Al Fitrah ( Goodness). Those who really believe that we are born for Eternal Paradise, know that this life is to work hard and be patient to deserve it. Those who believe in this short life and the pleasures; they end up hurting people to get what they want. These are like dead in this life and will be blind in the other life.
