It is impossible to remember everything that is necessary for a successful activity (or taught in an educational institution). Memory is not bookcase. But you must remember that this fact / rule / law exists. In my opinion, training should not result in “filling the memory” with a set of knowledge, but create a field of information about knowledge, about the ways of operations with this knowledge and the relations of different blocks of infromation. As my experience shows, the ability to remember and the ability to think are different functions of the brain. I knew several people whom we call the "walking encyclopedia", as a rule (but there are exceptions), they are not very successful as scientists (but unique as teachers) - if such a person does not remember the ready-made recipe for a specific situation - they often unable to move on. Moreover, the abundance of knowledge generates excessive respect for these, which does not allow a person to put forward his own conclusions (Who am I to argue with the classics?). The opposite case - the unique ability to think and draw conclusions - in the absence of knowledge often looks like an “invention of the wheel” or the generation of false theories (If I do not know this - this is not exists!). Therefore, in my opinion, for a person, the ability not to forget (everyone has this ability...), but ability to remind, not a complete information, but its connexions and sources is more important, which makes it easy to find complete information in books or websites (which exist for this purpose...).
People forget! Effective learning that transfers knowledge into practice at different contexts helps in recalling information and building solid base and scientific background.

Numerous research has shown that revived memories are fragile and vulnerable to modification. Perhaps the modification of those memories can be prevented if people are asked to suppress or forget those reactivated memories, which is directly related to the teaching methods used.
Being forgetful or having a volatile memory is definitely not regarded to be good. The attention and the interest you show to the situations and work will determine the storage of such information in the peripheral mind or the internal memory.
