Does anyone have experience in using both Spermvision and IVOS for computer assisted sperm analysis (CASA)? Are there significant differences between the two systems?
Thanks to all who take my question into consideration.
I do not have experience with Spermvision, but have worked with IVOS and now recenlty SCA.
In essence all systems more or less measure the same parameters, however you might find differences in results. This is based on the detection and algorhytms etc. that vary between apparatus.
Please refer to the manuscripts below. Also feel free to contact Prof Gerhard Van der Horst - he will be able to provide you with detailed information.
Thank you for your answer Prof. Du Plessis. I have previously read the recommended papers and they influenced me to ask this question. Same as you suggested, I also think that the results might be different due to different algorithms and settings. I have always used Spermvision and I wonder if switching to IVOS would be a good or bad idea.
What is your opinion on IVOS vs. SCA?
@ Houshang Nouri
Thanks for your answer Houshang. Have you worked with the two systems?
Yes, I have worked on both systems. Maybe I am biased, but I prefer SCA for various reasons. Many more functions, lots of Research & Development recently done by the company (Microptics SL), and really a very good system to use for both Clinical and Research purposes. The support is also excellent.
Then maybe SCA is actually a better option. In a recent discussion with someone that uses CASA on a regular basis, I was told that IVOS is the best system on market. I've been reading however an increasing number of positive opinions about SCA.
