I had a student who although published abroad could not get published in the UK. Although her detective novel was published, she was told by a male agent that only male writers could write good thrillers.

Is publishing an agent led industry in which genre writings are largely dismissed in preference for stories on relationships? The epics of the past seem gone forever? The novel of ideas rarely seen?
