Both of groundwater modeling system(GMS) and surface water modeling system(SMS) are well known.
Is it possible link them to evaluate flow exchange and pollution transport in river-aquifer interactions?
Which two software do you recommend for this purpose?

Hello Azade,
There are a few models that integrate surface and groundwater modelling. A very well-known platform is the MIKE-SHE model (https://www.mikepoweredbydhi.com/products/mike-she), but such models are data-hungry and involve complex parameterization, besides the price tag. There are a few studies that tried to integrate SWAT and MODFLOW (Kim et al., 2008; Sophocleous and Perkins, 2000; Sophocleous et al., 1999), although SWAT does simulate groundwater. These studies focused on flow exchange but not necessarily on solute transfer between ground- and surface water since their objective was water management. It might be worthwhile contacting the authors of the papers below to discuss the capabilities. I had a contact with Dr. Kim a few years back and the SWAT-MODFLOW platform was still being supported.

My incomplete description caused a misunderstand, probably.
If I'm not mistaken, coupled models such as SWAT-MODFLOW/MT3D and GSFLOW-MODFLOW/MT3D simulate flow and transport pollution in surface-aquifer domains.
But i am seeking for a integrated model for simulating these phenomena from aquifer into river. In the other words in this case, aquifer have interaction with river, that means flow and pollution discharge from aquifer to river. I want the mentioned model simulate these phenomena in both the aquifer and the river and interaction between them, too.
If you have any comments on this, please share it with me.
