Subhash C. Juneja ·:Why someone wants to add additional PVP and think about this. Need to add minimum possible to help handling (non-sticking to surfaces) (not to lose embryo). Anything in excess may cause at least deprivation of embryos for the access to good media rather than loaded PVP with media.
People were doing ICSI without any PVP earlier. Companies come up with product to make the things easy like 10% PVP not knowing what will be the effect on new born baby in long-term. I will try to avoid PVP or not more than 1% PVP so that oocyte and sperm does not stick to surfaces. Remember, with ICSI, along with sperm head, 10% PVP gets into egg.
ON the other hand, I doubt PVP does affect pH.

Sorry but I cannot agree: To my knowledge PVP does affect pH. Low molecular fragments of PVP that are mixed with appropriate size molecules (30-40 KD) tend to be acidic. That's the reason why PVP is dialized when preparing: to remove these fragments and stabilize pH.

In human ICSI, 7% PVP is commonly used. Earlier studies showed some toxic effect due to impurities. Medical grade PVP is considered safe now. For your information some of the older publication are given below. There is another physiological alternative to PVP as well.
