Sorry if the question is too simple. However, we read the term "PDL cell" in many publications. (PerioDontal Ligament Cells)
I wonder, is PDL a cell that contains clear cytoplasmic membran, cytoplasm, nucleus, intracytoplasmic organels ?
Where is PDL cells?
PDL is not a cell but a ligament which consists of cells and an extracellular fibrous compartment. In my opinion "PDL cells" refer to the cells of which PDL is built.
I agree with Panayot.
PDL is tissue like tendons or other ligaments. Each one is made of long collagen fibres. And these fibres are made of collagen type I secreted by cells called fibroblasts which lives between fibres or among fibres. In layman language, you can say cells were the first, they made their nest of fibres and are living in the nest. Cells+fibres make tough structure like rope which can withstand continuous tension and is called PDL in the peridontium when our teeth do their function like eating. I agree with Dr. Panayot, the bottom line is: PDL itself is not a cell.
