I am working on a low cost NIR spectroscopy (600-1000nm) based milk analyzer. I have read that NIR spectroscopy calibration is not transferable from one device to another. In other words, you would need 500 samples to teach each of the device that you manufacture (which seems a costly, and unpractical affair).

I wonder if we can calibrate each spectrometer such that we know what wavelength is falling on each pixel (of the CCD array), why cant we transfer NIR calibration from device to device? Is there any way around?
