I have read different accounts on the procedure for measuring soil pH and conductivity with varying soil:water ratio, shaking time, waiting time before measurement and whether the measurement should take place just immediately after shaking or after waiting for a time period.

My experience has shown that it does not really matter if one waits for 5 minutes or measures just immediately after shaking as the respective values obtained for pH and conductivity for both points in time are very similar.

My question now is, does it really matter if one waits for some time after shaking before measurement? If yes, why does it matter since the values obtained are very similar and do not differ much?
