My Institution just applied for a patent based on a finding of my group (we are based in Mexico). I want to promote its licensing to some company that might be interested. Has someone done this? is there any good resource for these matters? I do basic Science.
The answer is yes, however, licensing will depend on several issues: 1) if you have your patent application granted 2) the grant of the patent is local: you can have US/EP/AU and/or other countries' granted patents, but that does not necessary makes you eligible to have license. I am not familiar with MX, though. It depends on Freedom to Operate (FTO) or, this is about if there is a company (or other entities) that already have production that is in the same technology (broader than yours in terms of scoping is).
I am involved in FTO searches, however they are pretty much "local"/"territorial"/based on the country.
I just will outline that this is not a formal/legal advice, you should ask for a local advice from a Patent Attorney in Mexico.

Great Viara answer. I just would add that only you, as an expert researcher ind the field who has helped to write the patent, already know the list of companies that could benefit from obtaining the patent rights. Someone in the Transference of Techonology Office of your university and/or your patent attorney, could make a brief summary about what the patent consists of (never providing confidential information) and go directly to companies to study their possible interest. That is what i have done in the past, but finally we had to make a start-up company to bring the results to the market. Hope it helps!.

In last one year I submitted the invention to nearly 100 corporate manufacturers around the globe. Five have declined further interests after studying it for a period of 1-5 months by citing some internal reasons but without commenting on the merits of the invention. Few have asked to approach after grant of patent at USPTO/EUPTO/Regional PO which is again no guarantee it will be implemented.
I have requested for Early Publication of Patent and for Expedited Examination of Patent at Indian Patents Office and can be searched at ipindia.nic.in by IN Application No. 201721031294 Dated 04-09-2017.

Once you patented your invention you can license it to some entity for commercialization hence you wouldn't have to create a start-up. You may need a legal entity to enter into a proper licensing agreement but you don't have to stand up an actual operating company. You can find potential licensees by looking up the existing IP landscape around your idea, some tools (I work for one at www.tradespace.io) will give you suggested partnership or licensing leads to follow based on analysis of the content of your patent.
@Mathieu Guerville, thank you for letting us know. However, is that worldwides service or your service is limited to the demand in certain industrial regions and/or countries. How successful is actually this licensing? Can you please share some examples, or Mathieu Guerville, please, can you provide some reading material/experience/stories, thank you in advance.
