Aizerman's potential functions (todays wording would be Kernel functions) are the base of Vapniks SVM approach, but also, e.g., of Bocklisch's Fuzzy-Pattern-Classifier approach, which leads to two theory-of-science-based completely different concepts and, following, two completely different approaches.
After 40 years of Aizerman's publications (many in russian language) regarding potential functions it might be worthwhile to review his concepts and approaches to gain more details which could be potentially helpful for new research in the area of kernel based classification. What is your opinion?
