freezer temperatures at -20 & -80?
or is it best to store at refrigeration temperatures at 0-4 °C
does cold temperatures have any harmful effect on phytochemicals of a plant extract containing phenolic compounds like flavonoids? I'm asking this since they are heat labile.
I can't claim to have any personal experience with storage of pant extracts, but my expectation would be that the stability of the material would increase as the storage temperature decreased. So I would store it at -80.

Its always better to preserve stock at - 20 or - 80 oC. While working samples can store to refrigerator.
It may be proper to store plant extract at a very low temperature of between -20 to -80 0C in order to maintain shelf stability in place of constant energy supply. Secondly, the plant extract may be freeze-dried and stored at that recommended temperature and to be re-constituted with appropriate solvent depending on the time it is required for use.
In my own opinion, the extract should be freeze-dried and stored in an air tight container.
Extracts stored at temperatures of -20 to -80 o c will freeze it and hence stored for long before usage with efficacy retained.Although it can also be stored at temperature of -3 to -4 0 c in the refrigerator.
Personally, it is what I did while I was working on plant extracts. I didn't pay attention to the temperature storage but I kept the extracts in a cool place and still I got nice results for my analysis. I am going to consider what other said. Thanks for your help
Consider the Arrhenius equation. The rate of a reaction (degradation reaction) doubles for every 10 degree C rise in temperature. Thus, if you stored at -20 C, it may degrade 4 times slower than at 0 C. Thus usually, the colder the better, without performing assays or investigations.
