I am storing PBMCs for a long time before analysing gene expression. These PBMCs will have a BSL category 4 virus within them. So I need to inactivate the virus before processing the samples. Trizol is a good choice for this, as it both inactivates virus and preserves RNA very well. Therefore this would be the easiest solution. However, I have no experience with the standard RNA isolation procedure used on samples stored in trizol. I do have experience with Qiagen RNA extraction kits. From what I can gather, it takes a lot of practice to become proficient at the standard method of RNA isolation with Trizol. Therefore being able to use RNA extraction kits would be much easier.

Does anyone have any thoughts on this? Thanks.
