I want to use cohesive element with traction-separation response for uniaxial compression test on concrete. The thickness of zone that I have used cohesive element in, is about 0.05 mm. With respect to that in ABAQUS documentation is mentioned “The behavior of the interface is unaffected by pure compression”, so how I can use this type of element in compression test? Basically the quotes of ABAQUS documentation is related to compression test or that means another thing?

I have also a bit doubt regarding this matter, but as far as I understood, the behaviour of cohesive element is considered for both compression and tension in ABAQUS.
for your case, I guess it is better to use the "continuum" option instead of "traction-separation".

Could you explain more about? In the Macaulay bracket it has been brought that relative displacement is considered equal to zero in compression.But if you mean I change it,is it possible to change this in ABAQUS ?

even i was trying to validate it for pure mode1 compression test. but the material does not behave as per the maxs and damage evolution criteria that i have put.
please let me know if you have got some solution.
