I need to isolate smooth muscle cells and urothelail cells from bladder biopsy. I am wondering if it is possible to store collected tissue sample for a while before processing without affecting the viability of tissue or cells?
It depends on the organ. One can store tissues containing differentiated cells for no more than 24 hours after removal from an individual if immediately placed into an ice cold solution consisting of culture medium + 10% FBS, at pH 7.4, and stored at 4C. The exceptions are organs that synthesize and secrete digestive enzymes, such as the exocrine pancreas.
