i want to do the ball milling operation of graphene with iron powder. Due to high energy impact force of balls defects will be produce. These defects are not beneficial and cause to form carbides. These defects may diffuse the whole structure of graphene during sintering process. Therefore, i want to regain structure of graphene after ball milling operation.
If you are looking at improved structural strengths, I suggest you use graphene oxide powder in place of graphene followed by heat treatment in inert atmosphere at more than 700 degree C. This will prevent carbide formation and or agglomeration.
You can reduce the ball milling intensity to reduce the formation of defects in the structure by wet milling (using a liquid), less balls, smaller balls, les rotational speed, etc.
There are some reports on defect healing in graphene.. simplest of them is annealing graphene in Ar/H2, PECVD etc.
As it has been already mentioned healing graphene can be achieved in annealing under inert atmosphere. Although I will also suggest to use wet milling.
