It is possible to submit 'similar' research process sections i.e. introduction literature review (and that would be quite normal - say when reporting the different phases of a mixed methods study) but I would not advise direct 'cutting-and-pasting'. Many journals now automatically submit manuscripts via a plagiarism-checking software - so direct match is a big 'red flag' for not sending to review. I'm not convinced about a methodology chapter that would be exactly the same in two papers - otherwise what would be the difference between the two papers?

If the research outcomes are founded upon the same theoretical and empirical backgrounds, then similar but not identical review and methodology sections are inevitable. However, if the outcome involves different theories, then you should change the literature review and methodology sections accordingly.

In a research article in an engineering field, the methodology section is about the theories and hypothesis of the research. for instance, in civil engineering, the equations and hypothesis which are used for experimental or numerical study should be presented in methodology section. therefore, the methodology of two paper with the same model and different outcomes would be the same.

You could write (and get published or put somewhere on the internet) one paper focused on the methodology and then write another paper in which you refer to the first paper for details of the methodology.

I can see how the methods sections would be similar in studies of the same data set, but an effective introduction is usually focused on the research questions, so I think that repeating that section would be unwise.

Honestly It would come as Illegal in Terms of Conditions of the Journal Publication Criteria. Usually Journals sets Conditions that the Manuscript submitted for one Publication would not be submitted in another Journal at the same time and also the Paper Manuscript submitted is not Published in another Journal before. It is also Illegal and might also comes in Pligarism I Believe. I would recommend to Put energy in Another Research Publication rather then Twisting one Research Study to Publish other Articles having same Data Collection and Results. I am sure If some try to do this way of Publication in Excellent Journals with High Impact Factor IF and High Index surely it would be Rejected quickly. It does portray the author as a publisher of substance. Does it mean there is nothing to write that will constitute preamble to the second paper? Even when the papers are emanating from the same research work, the direction of discussions is not the same. I don't see how the same introduction will be adequate for two distinct papers even when the themes are similar. For instance, if an author is writing on "preliminary investigation of gait syndrome in Parkinson's disease...." and the "the management of gait syndrome in Parkinson's disease". The two address the same subject matter with distinct orientations. The introduction and literature cannot be the same.

The introduction may be the same but when it comes to methology, in any ways this part must be specific as the main purpose of any research is to get a conclusive specific result which is completely based on the method used.

It is considered as a self plagiarism. if you producing 2 papers, just bcos you have many results and outcome..then you should submit as part-1 and 2. though, both are independent, but the reader who is interested in part-2, will also read part-1 for better understanding. which means no need of duplication

• The first one had five authors; first 2 authors as well as the last, are registered on RG platform. In the second paper, the first 2 authors are not registered on RG and the 2nd and 4th authors are new additions to the author list in paper 1. Both groups are the same working on the same project "Nanomaterials for Wastewater Treatment". Journal of Molecular Liquids is a very senior, serious and reputable journal to have allowed this.
• Maybe, there is/are publication conditions(s) we are missing or do not fully understand. But this is nothing short of "shocking".

As per most reputable journals, If the similarity index is more than 15%.. it is straight forward rejected.

There is a difference between identical wording and similar topic. If researchers could only publish any text on their topic once and once only there would be far fewer journals out there. As a reviewer for 10 or so journals I frequently see researchers publish the methodology in detail once and then in other related papers they say "the method used was ... which is explained in detail in..." and only write a brief outline of the method (or literature review). Nothing wrong with that.

It depends on rules of the selected journal. Some journals would accept it, when the same papers are submitted in the one journal. But in general, this procedure is not acceptable and correct procedure for a professional researcher.
