Please refer the attached paper, is it possible to obtain crack pattern directly for flexure without using any specialized techniques in abaqus just by applying loads exceeding the capacity
Hi, using the CDP model for concrete (as in this paper), you cannot visualise cracks as such, but by visualising maximum principle plastic strain (PE), which in the material model is defined as cracking strain, you get the patterns of cracking. Similarly you could also plot "DAMAGET" if you defined it in the model. I believe this is what was done in the paper you refer to.
The paper you refer to doesn't seem to have attached properly. However, in general, XFEM is the only method that I'm aware of that can predict crack growth along a non-predetermined path.
John-Alan Pascoe: Sorry, i have attached the paper now, and i mailed the author also he says he directly got the crack pattern and there is no mention of any XFEMtechnique in the paper.
