It's necessary to increase the thermal and electrical conductivity of multi-walled carbon nanotubes (MWCNTs) obtained by the CVD-method. In this case, MWCNTs are used for electric heaters and the surface of heat exchange devices. Carbon black in some cases allows to achieve better results as electrically and heat-conductive additives due to the larger surface area, low percolation threshold. Is it possible to mechanically activate MWCNTs by changing their physico-chemical properties?
Ball-milling, air and nitric acid oxidations (non-mechanical) can be used.
Dear Professor Riaz A. Khan, thanks for the answer. Oxidation of MWCNTs in nitric acid gives little improvement. It's interesting that the MWCNTs can be processed mechanically, i.e. change their structural properties. MWCNTs is a rolled sheet of graphene, and graphene is one of the strong materials, how is it possible to mechanically influence the nanoscale structure of these particles using macro objects?
