Wetland rice condition is anaerobic where aerobic microbes can not be sustained. Moreover, in this situation microbes need high energy reaction for make carbon available as source of their energy. In this situation microbes in the biofertilizer could not survive and will not be able to compete with the indigenous anaerobic organisms.
Fern Azolla pinnata and blue green algae like Nostoc, Anabaena, Gloeotrichia, Aphanothece etc. are successfully used as bio-fertilizers for wetland rice cultivation.

Actually I wanted to know about the formulation of biofertilizer that contain live and latent cells so that we can apply it to soil as well as seed inoculation like Rhizobium. Rhizobium can be preserved with carrier materials. But so far I know Azolla is not a biofertilizer but Anabaena azollae live in the Azolla can fix N when it grown with wetland rice. But growing azolla is difficult due to high temperature and other limitation. For this reason I wanted to know if there any formulation that preserve the Anabaena azollae.
I think you may use clostridium under anaerobic situation. For preserving you can either use lignite or activated charcoal.
Nice discussion . How would you identify the rhizocompetent microbes , preferably from rhizosphere of rice only ..?How will you proceed to identify the competent ones using rice as a test crop..? Are you looking for single inoculation or wish to develop a consortium of microbes , preferably for wetland rice..?

You may go through AM fungi, because it has been reported that, AM fungi increase the nutrient level in rice under flooded conditions.

We have developed a microbial consortium for citrus , and it is really responding well , not only in nursery plants during pre-evaluation stage , but produced equally impressive response in grown trees as well when combined with organic manures alone or even in combination with chemical fertilizers as well. Here is a enclosed to give some preliminary information.
Azolla and BGA can take care of N supply. For micronutrient such as Zn, you may screen microbial population from Zn deficient soils for Zn solubilization activity. After noting their potential in vitro cultures, you may test them individually and also in combinations under green house condition. The effective micobial combination may be used to develop microbial consortium to augment Zn nutrition of rice. Under field condition, the effectiveness and potential of developed microbial consortium may be validated by planting seedlings dipped in diluted broth.
Vesicular-arbuscular mycorrhiza (VAM) is formed by the symbiotic association between certain phycomycetous fungi and angiosperm roots. The fungus colonizes the root cortex forming a mycelial network and characteristic vesicles (bladder-like structures) and arbuscules (branched finger-like hyphae). Even the roots of some aquatic plants are colonized by VAM fungi. VAM fungi have been reported to increase the nutrient level in rice under flooded conditions also.
