My lab have some skin biopsies that were previously conserved in paraffine , and i wanted to know if it is possible to extract DNA or RNA from them.

you can isolate both DNA and RNA from FFPE using commercial kits but also standard manual isolation protocols. However, both nucleic acids will be highly fragmented. Thus you should use methods that do not require long molecules (>200bp) and that are sensitive. To improve the situation there are commercial kits available that reduce the degradation or ligate the fragmented DNA (I am not sure if something similar is availabe for RNA).

Yes, there are different steps to extract DNA and/or RNA.
Extraction of nucleic acids (DNA / RNA) from formalin-fixed and paraffin-embedded (FFPE) samples: steps
1. Cut 8-10 slices from biopsies, 2-3 from surgical pieces with a thickness of 10 μm
2. Deparaffinatura / digestion O.N. with lysis buffer plus proteinase K.
3. Nucleic acid purification (multiple methods)
4. DNA precipitation
5. Quantitative evaluation
6. Conservation
Of course it is possible, but the nucleic acid quality may or may not be a problem, depending on your purpose.
