We are working on the mathematical modeling of composting for the realization of a composting reactor in approximately 24 to 48 hours, although first I would like to know if it is feasible and if there are previous works on this topic. Any response will be of great help. Thank you
it not possible to compost with in 24 hours . It may take at least two weeks to decompose organic matter.
The biological process for composting takes into account different variables for being modeled such as biomass temperature, moisture, biomass composition, etc., therefore acomplishing the digestion process for compositing in less than 14 days is not feasible
I don't know much about composting, but if the usual required time for composting is two weeks or more (as explained by Madhukar Baburao Deshmukh), it certainly doesn't feel that it is determined by a process that is fundamental to composting. The parameters and measures suggested by Artur Braun seem very reasonable to me.
Imagine composting a chunk of organic matter, such as an apple. There may initially be few microbes digesting it and they have to multiply, taking some time. They start from the surface and need time to reach the centre. And they cannot be consuming it intensely in the centre because diffusion doesn't bring them enough oxygen while the outside layers are intact and being digested.
Composting of a single plant cell in suitable conditions is going to take less time. And an apple is composed of single plant cells ...
In a sewage treatment plant, nutritious water is mixed with air and microbes (activated sludge). The conditions for consuming the nutrients are good and the process takes hours, not days. If the apple was finely ground up, mixed with enough microbes, supplied with enough oxygen, and kept at a suitable temperature and humidity, something similar may be achieved, speeding up the composting process.
Diego Betancourt fast composting can be done in 96 hours (see attached fulls text). I also found a references in which the authors claim that "A novel hyperthermophilic compost (HPC) was produced from fast hyperthermophilic composting of 24 h" (see attached Summary).
