How to calculate mass of thin film indirectly and convert magnetization from emu/cc to Mb/fu?
1) thanks to thickness and surface you can obtain the volume
2) From the composition and the crystal structure, you can compute the density
3) the knowledge of both density and volume allows to determine the mass
4) emu/g * Molecular mass /5585 = µB/f.u

Dear Mira, thanks for your help. But I did not get clear idea from that discussion about calculating mass from the composition and crystal structure. because in my case multiple elements can contribute to magnetic moments
the density of amorphous thin films could differ substantially from the bulk value
If the film is in crystalline structure XRD measurement device gives you density
I think to study Magnetization in the thin film is very time consuming as compared to bulk. In order to get true moment from the film, first take the magnetic measurement of substrate only and then take the measurement of the film which you have deposited.
This helps because substrate has its own magnetic nature. e.g. some of them are diamagnetic.
After that you can follow the link given by the Ms. Mira.
The thickness of the film can be determined from the mass change of the substrate (before and after coating procedure) using a high precision weight balance. The thickness of the film can be calculated by using the formula [M. Ohring. The materials science of thin films: deposition and structure. Academic Pr, 2002.]
df=(∆m.ρs)/(ms.ρf ) × ds
Where ρ,ds , and ms are the density and the thickness and the mass of uncoated substrate respectively. ρf the density of the film deposited.
Well, whether the latter approach actually works depends on thickness range of the film and on chemistry! Consider a 1nm fim on a 1mm substrate. That would amount to roughly 10^-6 precision in the (maybe sub-) gram range. Now imagine it is a transition metal film, taken out of vacuum. Chemistry will happen and change the weight of the sample through incorporation of oxygen...
So, attempting this may be very, very challenging and requires working with materials which allow the method to be applied with sufficient precision.

As I would like to convert emu/cc to Mb/fu where mass of the materials is unknown.
In the given procedure, the discussion is about the number of unpaired electron in the magnetic ion. however when a compound has multiple magnetic atoms, in that case how to calculate no. of unpaired electrons?
what will be the procedure then (eg. NiMnSb case)
