Topological insulators such as Bi2Te3, Bi2Se3 show hexagonal crystal structure with repeating 3 unit cell. Xrd pattern of thin film gen show 003 family peaks in these materials. How to confirm from these peaks that the crystal structure is hexagonal?
Download powder-x software which is free on net by using you should easily identify the crystal structure of given peak. this software very useful for XRD analysis. You can download POWDERX DEMO (free) for limited applications.

for more details you can easily calculate from hkl of 003 as you mentioned values of c and from the other hkl peak calculate values of a the rest of the peaks should give the same values of a and c according to the hexagonal related equaion and then if all values of a and c are the same then you have a hexagonal type crystal structure

i don't want to fit the xrd data . I just want to understand by allowed reflections. Eg. in fcc either even or odd reflectins are allowed. In a similar way if I see 003 family reflections in these samples, they do not come under allowed reflections for hexagonal lattice.
