I am performing some organic conversion through heterogeneous nano catalysts and I want to find out the TON and TOF for these reactions. I had performed the reusability tests. Please give me some help.
It is good to know that TON is not a good parameter to compare your catalyst activity with previously reported catalysts. Whereas, TOF is more acceptable. There are lots of methods that have been used to calculate the TON and TOF, but the most used equations are written below:
TON= (moles of desired formed product)/ (moles of active sites)
TOF= TON/ reaction time
in the case of active sites, it depends on your catalyst; for example active sites are equal to moles of metal in a metal doped catalyst.
Do not use the time of 100% conversion. use the time below 50 % conversion for a better an more accurate comparison.
It depends how the catalyst activity changes by recovery. If the activity of the catalyst (which you can relate to the product conversion) does not change through the recovery steps, then TON and TOF of the recovery step is equal to your freshly used catalyst. In most cases, the catalyst activity should not severely in the first 10 or 20 recovery steps.
