I made three transects of 5, 6, and 7 point-counts of 25m radius each in a dry tropical forest in Costa Rica to record bird abundance and richness. Each point-count is separated 200m from the next one.
I don’t specialist in richness index, but I think that this difference may bias the result. But if you across rarefy method you can access the species number estimated without problems notwithstanding this difference.
I recommend “Ecological Diversity and Its Measurement” (Magurran, 1988), I think that this can help you.
Thanks Gabriel, I'm acquainted with rarefaction methods to standardize different sampling efforts. The sampling is going to be done within a single habitat type (not in different habitats), but involves two different seasons: dry and wet.
