Currently, I am conducting research on the adsorption and desorption of flavonoids in plant extract by using macroporous resins. After equilibrium, the adsorbed flavonoids by resins were treated with ethanol. Then I used the formula to calculate the adsorption capacity and desorption capacity. After that I calculated desorption ratio. Now the result showed the desorption ratio (D%) more than hundred. I used the same weight of resin in the formula. May I know is it possible? Anyone had encountered this before? I checked in literature, most reported the D% less than 100.

How you detrmine the amount adsorbed and desorbed. Maube you don't have linearity? Other explanation are some artifacts.

Mass balance should be maintained. You put 100 molecules on the surface, 101 should not desorb. How are you analyzing the flavanoids? Most likely it is an analytical method error and re-check your dilutions/calculations? Secondly, how large is your value above 100?
M. Farooq Wahab Grzegorz Boczkaj Thank you for your response. Kindly appreciated. I analysed my flavonoids using HPLC which I already prepared the calibration curve for my flavonoid. I calculated the concentration of the flavonoids based on area under curve of the peak. For injection, I prepared 5 mg/ml of the concentration of flavonoids before adsorption and also desorption. I think that is why the desorption capacity is higher than adsorption capacity because the desorbed flavonoid is already in enriched form. I will check back the calculation.
No it is not possible. Check the purity of the flavones before the absorption and after the desorption it might be due to some impurity probably from the resin
