Dear Paulette Sofia Laurente, one aspect is to be considered as it may affect the dissociation and reactivity of the precursors. This is the so called 'dilution effect'. For example, if using 1 N and 10N NaOH, you add 10 times volume more of water when using 1N compared to 10N, to reach the same pH. The situation becomes more drastic if a surfactant or a capping agent are used, they are more sensitive to concentration (dilution). My Regards

Hi Dr Paulette Sofia Laurente . If you need exact pH and not range then NaOH and HCl should be standardize . Otherwise, no need to standardize .

I have one more question Dr. Aref Wazwaz , is it also necessary to standardize the molarity of your metal precursor before synthesizing nanoparticles? for Example, I will be using a 1mM AgNO3 for my synthesis of silver nanoparticles. however, I cannot find any article trying to standardize their precursor before conducting the experiment. Thank you very much.

I just came across your very interestig technical question. Let me try to give you a simple answer. If it comes to adjusting the pH of a reaction mixture I would say that you can use any dilute acid or base which you have available in your lab. Crucial is only the resulting pH value. There are very many published procedures available right here on RG in which the "green" synthesis of silver nanoparticles is described:

I'm pretty sure that different authors use differently concentrates acid and base solutions. Just look for a procedure that fits your needs and possibilities. "Standardization" sounds difficult, but in the case of AgNO3 it's rather easy. For making a 1 mM AgNO3 solution just dissolve 169.87 mg (1 mmol) of silver nitrate in 1 liter of distilled / deionized water.

Dear all, I want to add a simple explanation to my previous contribution. From the basic rate (r) kinetics of reactants A and B, the equation is written as:

r=k.[A]^a.[B]^b

Is it right that r will have the same value if while adjusting the pH different concentrations are used ? Obviously both [A] and [B] will be different, thus, the kinetics will be different, and consequently the results will be different. My Regards
