Hello every body.

i'm working on simulating turning operation using a 3-D model involving a rotating cylindrical work piece and tool with detailed geometry. i used J-C material and damage model and successfully simulated chip formation. but i have a question...

When reviewing the literature, i frequently see the terms ALE, PL, UL and stuff like that. i know what they are, but i don't know what is the benefit of using these approaches. i didn't use none of these things for my work and got a good result. so what is the use of ALE (for example) in simulating chip formation when one can get good results without using them?

thank you all for your help.
