I would like to ask whether is it applicable to judge a student integrity and knowledge on the basis of these enterance test conduct by the educational system of India to get admission in PhD program. As we know that students persuing masters in any branch of science is not aware or its not possible for them to study every branch related to their subject but the students are well sufficient to carry forward their research interest in that case students dont get chance to persue their research career. so, what should they do?? very few institutes offer temporary jobs as PA or JRF positions by some advertisement or walk in interviews for one year or six months but that also does not gives any assurity whether they will provide registration for PhD. and if a student want to go abroad then they have to get schloraship other wise its not possible for the students to sustain.
So, I am asking whether there is any proper channel so that these problems can be simplify?
Surjit, whats the problem in entrance exam. It is totally based on your PG topic. Research is not all about to be in laboratory all the time we must have the subject knowledge also. Direct admissions to any course should be prohibited if you want to have quality not the quantity. If you have something in u it will definitely take u to a better in future
I strongly "defy" this notion of getting into Phd. after successfully clearing entrance exams like CSIR, DBT etc. A student can just sit at home, prepare and clear these exams but hen it comes to practicality and ability to design experiments he/she fails, most of the time. So, instead of such ventures,more positions should come up and individual scientists should interview candidates for position in their lab. this could be one way. however this is a strongly debatable topic,,, but still can be sorted out in long run!!
For abroad ventures,, of course, you have to apply but u need not apply for any exams other than TOEFL or GRE WHICH ARE APTITUDE AND LANGUAGE BASED TESTS. THEY ARE GOOD AND VALID. rest all depends on your masters project, publications and the amount of knowledge you possess. its very competitive so it s tough inded to clear for international positions in current date.

Thank you MrDash, I agree with you that if a student sits in home and ifhe study then exams can be cleared but when it comes to practical knowledge which is required they failed and I have seen people who have cleared their exams persuing their phd but they dont have practical skills
Therefore scientists should come up with some recruitments which will analyse the students on the basis of their credibility not just what you have learned by reading books
@ Mr Singh, You know very well and you must be also coming across such issues in daily life in your institute. out of my personal experience i have also worked in JNU, and IGIB until 2013. so, personally I would say, there is no solution to this problem and moreover the "reservations"!!! that why i also mentioned the phrase" indeed a non conclusive argument"...
