It has been long since I last used RG. The only reason being the hectic schedule of research. I have joined a research lab and am happy with what I am currently doing. I have opted for a good research field which is interesting and am enjoying every second of it.
My only query is, is it mandatory to join a doctoral program for pursuing hardcore, extensive research? Or, can a person enjoy his/her research life without being enrolled in PhD?
Why do people often stigmatize pursuing research with a PhD degree or is it even necessary?
What are your thoughts over it? I would be happy to know your vital opinions.

No It is not so. You can conduct research independently without joining PhD program. There are many MNC's R&D programs which can provide better infrastructural facilities for research and sufficient funds too. Institutional research is also meticulous and systematic.
However joining PhD program in a good university and getting a guidance from academicians will be more interesting opening vistas of thinking and make research more meaningful. You can get academically important degree- 'doctorate' Those who guide you also do it for extension of academic knowledge and therefore selfless services which may culminate excellent result and may help you in crossing laurels in life
You can do research without being in a doctoral program or without being affiliated with a university. If you have specific research ideas, you can pursue them on your own. However, by having a formal relationship with a university as a student (doctoral or other), a volunteer research assistant, or employee, you gain access to valuable resources that you either could not access or would have to pay for on your own.
@Sahar, I do not think so, but PhD scholar definitely follow the good path and leads to excellent research output.

I agree with Prof Dr K N Sheth 's answer. It will be advisable to affiliate with some University and conduct good research
I think if you have a good assistance and advice from prominent and well known mentor that would guide through your research path, then probably you do not need a Ph D program to perform a good research
I good research comes when you give time. its probably not true that you have to be enrolled for PhD for this, but having a degree of PhD will reflect your research too.
Not mandatory dear Qazi. But it will help you a lot to have a good understanding on the process of individual research and many other research related activities from representation to giving credit to others for using their findings properly and so many other things. It will really help you do a good research following THE CUSTOMS and RESEARCH ETHICS.
