I am working on Native electrophoresis but need to improvise in order to get a molecular weight standard as the standard with me is faulty and it takes weeks to order a new one. How do I get around this?
We never used commerical ones just ferritin (dimer 880kDa, monomer 440kDa), BSA (dimer 132kDa, monomer 66kDa) and sometimes catalase (230kDa) but that gets smeary when it has been hanging around in the freezer too long. Using them all at 2.5mg/mL should be plenty to see on a gel.
Hi, you can use the available molecular grade proteins at your lab as molecular weight standards. That should not be a problem. usually you dont get markers for native gel electrophoresis. So using available proteins should help you out. Concentration as much as 1mg/mL is enough. Loading volume shall be 25microLiter to 35microliter.
