Is it important to pre-treat the cells with unlabelled oxLDL before adding the labeled probe Dil-oxLDL?

Hello to everyone. I'd like some advice on visualising foam cells by FACS. The invitrogen protocol suggests pretreating macrophages with unlabelled ox-LDL to occlude the LDL receptors before adding the labelled probe Dil-oxLDL. Is this a good strategy for visualising and inducing foam cells in PBMC-derived macrophages?
