Hello, I am currently doing a project requiring Camplyobacter lari growth. Our primary streak on Campy agar (similar to blood agar) produces very small (1 mm), translucent colonies, but after we grow them up in broth and replate, we get much much large colonies (~3 mm). We have done everything under the sun to prevent contamination (new pack of sterile loops, sterility checks on everything used, working in anaerobic chamber under microaerophillic conditions) but we are struggling to explain the different sizes of colonies we are experiencing. Previously we have grown Campy jejuni, Campy coli, and Clostridium perfringens in the chamber prior, but contamination seems very unlikely.

Has anyone else ever experienced varying colony sizes growing Campylobacter lari?
