Is it appropriate or ethical for an author to submit the same article/manuscript to two or more journals for publication and to later choose only one of the journals accepts it for publishing?
Obebinaru - this type of practice is heavily frowned upon in most academic circles. For most established journals this is viewed as a direct breach of copyright law and, therefore, a breach of academic integrity. Those that practice it run the potential risk of being 'boycotted' by journal publishing houses - as authors are usually asked to state if a manuscript has been submitted elsewhere or not. It can also 'harm' the academic reputation of authors/researchers.
Never ever do that. Although you may not caught in this process, it causes a severe waste of time and editorial management. It is against the integrity of research to submit your article to two or more journals simultaneously.
Dear colleague, My suggestion is not to do that, if only because the review process for one journal takes a lot of time. It is better to submit to 1 journal, rework it based on the reviews you received, and then submit it to 2 journal (if it is rejected).
Dear Colleague - this would not be an advisable practice (see above). In case that your question is about suitability of a given journal, you should address the editor for advice.
