It is indeed a good idea, particularly if it is an international conference where participants are international scientists but locally organized, then it is a good idea of a benefit to organise a workshop and a short course delivery to graduate students of local universities or junior research scientists by willing participant scientists.  

That is a good idea. It may be as a preparatory workshop for the conference or practice workshop of what were delivered in the conference. Preparatory workshops are highly useful for the students and new researchers in the relevant area. The workshop may be conducted as a venue to discuss new research problems related to conference theme. 

As a Conference Organizer, I always try to organize some MATLAB or SCILAB workshop or some Modern Control workshop when we conduct Control Systems Conferences. Based on our experience, we see a lot of interest among audience, especially young PhD students in registering for these simulation / control workshops as research problems involve a lot of modelling and simulation.

Yes, it is a good idea and also beneficial to the attendees who can have a first hand knowledge and share/enhance their experience with eminent scientists.The timing of the workshop is an important issue as there should be minimum clash with the main conference.the organizers must ensure the timing issue is taken care of.    

Now-a-days there ha been a trend to organise workshop on emerging topics of the concerned disciplines. For ex in Library and information Science, we generally organise workshop on Creation of Digital Library, Institutional Repositories, Digitisation, Preservation and  conservation, Research Methodology etc. It is very interesting and fruitful for young LIS professionals to have hands on experience and many other may learn new things in the subject. 

Good to have a conference cum workshop, as it facilitates both knowledge and skills upgrade opportunity.

That is the common practice that conferences are organized with different workshops where attendants have a chance to meet the latest technologies, software...! This is the the chance to establish good connection with people and companies who perform workshops for future cooperation, both research and academic.

It is very good idea but not new.

People are already organising workshops by declaring special theme before the start of or in between of the conference.

The idea is organising two events simultaneously without much addition of cost and by using same participants. It saves the efforts, time, and money of the participants also.

Well said by Prof. Subhash C. Kundu!  The cost for Conference and Workshop may be brought under the same budget. Some of the guest speakers for the Conference may be retained for 1-2 more days to conduct the Workshop, and it is also for the participants to stay a little longer for 2 days to attend the Workshop. Otherwise, organizing cost (budget) and the attending cost for the delegates may both increase.

In my view, it is a good idea.. But the organizers upon trial and error may decide the merits of conducting such events in their institutes. The expenses must be met within the budget.

hello sir... i agreed to all my friends...we can go with conference cum workshop event... but the main thing is system and arrangement.... it all depends on organizers to make an event successful .... 

Dear Dr. Ra'ed (Moh'd Taisir) Masa'deh,

I postponed answering this question because there were a chemistry conference & a science exhibition (including chemistry) taking place at the same time, in our university, on last Tuesday with the first extending for 2 days & the second extending for 3 days. I was a member of the organizing committee for the conference & also a member of the organizing committee for the chemistry exhibition. The second activity included workshops relevant for multi-levels.

After finishing that exhausting week, I recommend not repeating it in the future. I was like a man who has 2 wives in 2 different houses moving from one house to the other several times trying not to anger any one of them and I really missed my lunches for 2 consecutive days. The scholars, who concentrated on attending the conference missed the attractive exhibition while those ,who kept their presence in the exhibition, have missed many good presentations in the conference. I think it would have been better if the conference went on for 2 days first & then the exhibition was made ,afterwards, for another 2 or 3 days. 

Combining conference, workshop, and exhibition bring synergy by economizing resources and time.
