In Structure last week Fang et al. found 3° structure not to correlate with protein dynamics.¹

Tompa however wrote in 2010 that "a correlation of local structural state and dynamics [of internal motions of IDPs] is often seen in NMR". ²

I take "local" in this context as referring to domains* (Fang et al. looked at both the protein- and domain-level). Assuming this was what Dr. Tompa meant, I'm wondering whether there are significant implications to it being shown otherwise?

Alternatively, I'm wondering if the existing data are sound, but rather whether these proteins are exceptional for having such a correlation in tertiary structure & dynamics? Did anyone else notice this paper, and have any thoughts on it with respect to IDPs, or in general?

*Edit: apologies, this is clearly not what "local" was referring to — rather the residue level as Jeffrey points out.
